Finding a Good Beer Off the Beaten Path

The human species has been developing different types of alcoholic drinks for thousands of years, from tree sap and various fruits to even something as drastic as fermented human saliva. There’s no question that, as a people, we’ve always loved getting our buzz on! Though over the past couple of centuries, we have perfected the art of brewing beer, and there are thousands of varieties out there to choose from.

Even though we have so many options, however, most beer drinkers don’t really stray too far away from their favorites. Well, if you’ve been wanting to try a high-quality beer, you might entertain the idea of trying out some lesser known craft selections and beers from abroad that will tickle your taste buds.

A Few Quality Beers to Try Out

1: Hell or High Watermelon

A strong wheat beer that has a distinctive sweet flavor from watermelon, this little hidden jewel is definitely a beer worthy of tasting at least once. Although it has a rather strong acidic bite to it, the watermelon leaves a subtle sweetness lingering on your tongue. It’s undoubtedly a beer; nothing fancy like a wine cooler. It just goes down easier than most craft selections.

2: Tiger Beer

The name is fierce and the taste is strong, perfect for accompanying spicy meals or even sipping like fine wine after a hard day of work. Tiger Beer is an Asian beer, but it’s not as strong (by alcohol content) as many beers in that region. Its body is thick; it’s a legitimate lager that reminds you you’re drinking a beer-drinker’s beer. But it’s not one of those beers that’s going to sneak up on you and leave you needing a cab after two.

3: Spring IPA

A very light, dry beer that really hits the spot on a mild, breezy day, Sprint IPA is an aptly named selection that’s gaining a big head of steam in the marketplace. It uses grapefruit in its brewing, but what really comes through are those earthy hops. It’s crisp, but it’s not straight carbonated water like mass-produced lights. You still know you’re drinking a beer.

4: Fosters

Although Foster’s was big about a decade ago with all their commercial spots, they really fell off the map. However, many are rediscovering this lager and they’re loving it. It’s a very strong, almost metallic-tasting lager, so it’s an acquired taste. But those familiar with beer and who have the refined palates for it come to love that bitter, burnt hoppy taste.

Beers pop up by the dozens every year, with a new selection trying to break through to the mainstream. You’ll probably never be able to taste them all, but the four listed above are definitely worth trying.

The Qualities of Good Quality Red Wine

Like many organic products, red wine exists in both a mass-produced form with consistent taste and profile, and a more refined, specific form, crafted in small batches. Most red wines are of the former variety and available everywhere under the name of various big brands. The latter variety are well known to connoisseurs and take some research to get familiar with. The aficionado of wine is primarily interested in a wine being evocative of a feeling or a place, sometimes called the “terroir” of the wine, recognized as the origin of its character. Some of these wines are of such limited availability that a serious wine enthusiast ought to consider buying them when shopping for online groceries.

A winemakers account of making wine in the Colorado Rockies

Firstly, a good wine has no faults, showing that it has been carefully made and tended to every step of the way. For example, if the barrel used to store the wine hasn’t been cleaned and disinfected, your wine could taste musty due to taking on the flavor of molds still in the barrel. Wine that has been poorly ventilated with a bad cork or in a room that’s too warm can become oxidized and develop off flavors. On the other hand, if you disinfect too vigorously, using too much sulfur or too much acetic acid for fermentation, the wine develops strong flavors.

Typically the most immediate thing you’ll notice about a wine aside from the bottle is the aroma. In fact, some wine enthusiasts ask to sniff the cork when purchasing wine so that they can get a sense of the flavor without overly aerating the wine. A consistent rule of thumb, outside of some rare examples, is that a good wine will smell good. Bad wines smell flat, one-note and astringent. While some astringency is part of the character of red wine because of tannins, they shouldn’t dominate the smell of the wine, and for that matter, the flavor profile.

Finally, a good wine will not only taste good, but the taste will be complex, with hundreds of flavors possible, from sweet, to tart, to woody or fruity. This flavor profile is experienced in sequences, from the moment of smelling the wine as it’s first tasted it to the time it’s swallowed, each sequence having unique notes and hints of flavor. Tasting wines have their own unique flavor, not at all like mass-produced wines which have a similar, consistent and monotone taste from bottle to bottle and year to year.

Does Ice Lemon Tea Taste Good?

Many people, after seeing all their friends and family drinking ice lemon tea are wondering whether or not this drink tastes good. However, this really is a silly question as nobody other than yourself can tell you whether a drink tastes good because everyone’s taste buds are different and enjoy different tastes. So, if you really want to know whether lemon iced tea tastes good or not, you will need to try it out for yourself.

Instead of buying a whole pack of this drink right away though, and risk wasting your money if you don’t like it, I recommend buying one out of a vending machine first so that if you don’t like it, you’ve only wasted one dollar. Even better, you could ask to have one of your friends or family member’s bottles. This will be free and you can see if you like it. However, I think you will really enjoy this drink!

Ice lemon tea that added pure honey is a good beverage for quenching thirst during summer days.
